Maxime Rokus (b. 1994, Arnhem) is a Dutch artist based in Amsterdam. Her work focuses on abstract painting with calm, balanced compositions shaped by geometric forms, soft tones and quiet spaces. She paints with acrylic on canvas, building each piece layer by layer and working without a set plan. Everything develops intuitively. A painting is finished when it no longer asks questions and the image feels quietly resolved.
After working in various creative fields, she returned fully to painting in 2024, shortly after the birth of her son. Since then, painting has become her main focus. Her studio on the Keizersgracht, one of Amsterdam’s historic canals, is a dedicated space where she works with full concentration when she is not with her son. The rhythm between motherhood and studio time has become an essential part of her practice.
She draws inspiration from everyday details such as light moving across a wall, the meeting of two colours in a room or the quiet tension between shapes. Since becoming a mother, her work has gained more emotional depth. At the same time, it remains abstract, open and non-narrative. She seeks clarity, stillness and a sense of order in her work, while keeping space for softness and spontaneity.
In 2025, Maxime’s work was shown at KunstRAI in Amsterdam
